What should we do to get the best SEO results in 2013?
On Page SEO Practices and Tips for 2013
On page SEO ranking depends on a number of factors that include:
- Title tags and meta tags
- Keyword density
- LSI keywords
Let’s have a look at them!
1. Title Tags and Meta Tags:
You no longer should put the main keyword directly into the title tag all the time. Instead you should use LSI keywords (LSI are explained bellow) or a variation of the main keyword you targeting in the title/description tags. For example your main keyword is: “How to make money online.” You can use some of the variations: “Learn how to make money online” or “Want to know how to make money online?”
This way it looks more natural to the search engines and you won’t get penalized for OVER optimization. Although there are still examples of websites that are ranking well with just the main keyword in the title/description tags but it’s safe to stay away from such tactics now.
2. Keyword Density:
There was a time when the optimum range for keyword density was 2-4%. However, it is no longer the same. Today, the range of 0.5-1% works out to be a lot more effective.
3. LSI Keywords:
One of the essential and most important factors in 2013 on page SEO ranking has been LSI or Lateral Semantic Indexing Keywords (You can use one excellent LSI tool HERE). What LSI keywords do is that they relate search terms with the actual original keywords that the user enters. For example, suppose the user enters the original keyword as “How to make money online,” some of the related LSI keywords would include:
- Making money online
- How to get profit online
- Tips for making money online
- Steps to make money online
- Making money online made easy
LSI keywords are directly related to the entered keyword. This factor is one of the main reasons why websites such as Wikipedia are successful because they make use of such keywords throughout their articles. While creating a website, one should definitely keep this factor in mind and make use of LSI keywords in titles, descriptions and throughout the body of the articles to increase on page SEO ranking.

Off Page SEO Tips and Practices
Certain factors are responsible for determining off page SEO ranking and these include:
- Different link types
- Deep Page Links
- Variety in TLD’s
- Variety in Anchor Text
1. Different Link Types:
Using different link types is advisable for the long-term success of the website. It actually takes time for people to figure this out. They make a start with giving preference to blog commenting and forum posting and see some success, but over a period of time, these start to become less effective. In order to obtain the best results, what one can do is start building backlinks from different types of platforms. Some of the different types of links that can be built include:
- Article Directories
- Social Bookmarking
- Social Media Sites
- Wiki backlinks
- Web 2.0
- Press Releases
- Niche Relevant blog comments
You should also mix “do follow” and “no follow” links in order to make the link building appear natural. Also stay away from spammy links such as mass blog commenting and mass forum profiles. Avoid going after 1,000’s of links instead focus on the quality of link sources.
2. Deep Page Links:
It should be ensured that all the links that are built are not only to the primary domain. The site’s inner pages need links built for them too. For example, suppose you run a website about making money online, it would be advisable to have links distributed as below:
- Latest tips about making money online: 10-20 links
- Most popular techniques for making money online: 10-20 links
- Most used methods for making money online: 0-10 links
- Best making money online tutorials: 0-10 links
3. Variety in TLDs:
Search engines will find it unnatural if most of your links are coming from the same TLDs or Top Level Domains. It is therefore important that you mix it up.
4. Variety in Anchor Texts
After the penguin update websites that built links with zero or minimal variation in the anchor texts suffered from a major drop in their ranks. This used to work very effectively, but not anymore.
The following format works effectively at present:
- 35-45% of the links to be built with LSI keywords (anchor text related keywords)
- 45-55% of the links to be built on the basis of random text such as “Click Here Now,” “Click Here,” “Get More Info,” “domain.com,” etc.
- The rest of the 10-15% of the links to be created with the primary keyword being used for the rankings
